What is “Aging-in-Place?
In the past, if someone had difficulty living alone, it was a signal that now was time to move in with family or go to a nursing home. But, for most people, that no longer is the case. Today, you can live on your own for many years, even as you grow older and start needing help with everyday tasks.

Americans of all ages value their ability to live independently. But without a plan for aging in place, it can be hard to stay in control of your life. Knowing your health risks and financial options can make a big difference in your ability to stay in a familiar place.
Choosing a Community that Supports Aging in Place
Seniors recognize that being fortunate when it comes to their health will impact what options they have to remain in their home. But even if you are unfortunate enough to develop a debilitating condition, you may still be able to age in place- -after you move first!
While it is true that the term "aging in place" means living where you have lived for many years in a non-healthcare environment, it can also mean transitioning to housing that will allow you to age in place.
Continuing Care Retirement Communities allow you to stay in the same general place with adjustments as you age and need higher levels of care. These multi-level “campuses” market "Independent Living, Assisted Living and perhaps Alzheimer's care and Skilled Nursing in one location, and claim to offer the opportunity to "age in place". In many cases you must also move from one wing of the campus to another to receive the increased services.
